Well, I have so much to say (and so little time)... therefore, I'm just going to go through these last few days as quickly as humanly possible (and I have so many photos... which I know are probably the only things you look at... so I'll throw a lot of those in this time!).
Let me just start by saying how much I love New York City. Again.
Sunday Evening
I ate a delicious falafel plate from a little restaurant called Fatoosh.
Allison and I got them to go, so that we could sit down by the water and enjoy the beautiful view.
Monday
The only reason I got out of bed this Labor Day morning was to join Allison on a little trip to Starbucks... to get... do you want to guess??
The season's first Pumpkin Spice Latte. (Secret confession: I like them.. but I don't really love them. Although this particular one was pretty tasty, it will probably be my one and only of the season).
Then, I ran across the Brooklyn Bridge again (this time, with no camera.. therefore, I have no photos).
And the evening consisted of another fun time at Floyd's with my lovely friends. This time, we were able to play bocce ball! Wooo. I guess Labor Day isn't a big bocce ball bar day for most people.
Tuesday
THIS WAS SUCH A BUSY DAY. But a wonderful one, at that! And it was my own fault it was so busy.. I just jam-packed it with a lot of little activities I've been meaning to get to.
Such as, visit the Brooklyn Heights Library and get a library card.
This place is literally two blocks from my front door, and I only just now stumbled upon it! Blasphemy. The only problem with this place is that the air conditioning broke sometime this summer... so it's about 80 degrees in there... and sometimes, they shut it down. In fact, I just finished my book (Water For Elephants) that I've been reading on the subway every day, and I went to go swap it out today, and it was closed :(. (It's a really fantastic book, by the way. You should read it).
Anyway, I'm an official member of the Brooklyn library system.
Woohoo.
BUT that doesn't cover the Manhattan library system.
So, I also went to the New York Public Library to get a library card.
Which was completely fine with me, because I fell in love immediately upon entering.
I mean, just LOOK AT THIS PLACE. I've decided I could live here.
Now that I had two library cards nailed down within a span of two hours, I was good to go...
...get lunch at Panera Bread and then eat it and read my book in Bryant Park by my little lonesome.
Saying it was wonderful would be an understatement.
After the pigeons ran me out, I made my way to:
The 9/11 Memorial. Which was beautiful.
They are still working on the museum section of it, so I really only saw the pools and the Survivor Tree.
And the new Freedom Tower, of course. It is going to be so wonderful when it's finished (which is supposed to be some time next year).
After walking around for about 45 minutes, I took the train back to Brooklyn to work on a pile of homework that was waiting for me.
And, just to make this day even more eventful, I received a notice that I needed to apply for graduation.
Ah. Graduation! I keep forgetting that I'm doing that soon.
So, I did. I applied. I guess it's official now.
THEN. I had the most spectacular night of music. I completely forgot to take photos, so I'll just have to tell you what happened really quickly.
1. I went to see Aoife (ee-fah) O'Donovan (the frontwoman for the Crooked Stills) at Rockwood Music Hall. I absolutely loveeee this venue- it's small, but the sound is wonderful, and Aoife was so fantastic. I can't wait to see Chris Thile there again in a couple of weeks. AND while I was there, I ran into my friend, Andrew Magill (from the Swannanoa Gathering). After Aoife's set, we all (Andrew, his roommates/friends and I) went over to the other stage to watch Brittany Haas (also a part of the Crooked Stills) and Lauren Rioux. When they were finished, Michael Daves played. AH. It was such a wonderful bluegrass music night.
2. When we'd had enough of Rockwood (which, honestly, I could never get enough of), we all headed over to Swift, which is a little Irish bar in the East Village. There was some wonderful fiddling going on here.. in the very back of the bar.. in a booth.. with microphones. It was just perfect.
3. At this point, it was about 1:00am, and I was on the verge of heading back to Brooklyn to go to bed. But they all talked me into going to Mona's-- a little bar (also in the East Village) that apparently, every Tuesday night after 11:00pm has wonderful jazz music. That's all I had to hear... I was more than up for going. And I am SO glad I did! The music was so so so fantastic, and if this really does happen every Tuesday night, I will do my best to be there.
THIS was the kind of music night I've been looking for. It was so perfect. In every way. Ah.
At 4:30am, I finally made it to bed. I can sleep when I'm home in December, right?
Wednesday
Internship.
Class.
I don't have time to explain anymore. It was a rainy day. And I was absolutely exhausted. But it was still a great day :).
Thursday
I literally woke up and sprinted to the Trader Joes a mile away to get some much-needed groceries. I was completely out of food except for peanut butter and cucumbers. Seriously.
Then, I went to my internship to finish up some things I couldn't get to yesterday.
And NOW I'm sitting here, with a towel on my head... I have to go get ready...
Because tonight is the first night of Fashion Week here in NYC, and although I could care less about the fashion shows, I'm trying to go to some free concerts. In fact, if I leave in the next ten minutes, I may be able to make it to a free concert that St. Vincent is putting on. (Mackenzie, if you're reading this... don't worry, I'll take pictures).
I MUST GO. What an insane/great/music-filled week.
